About
Who makes Synaptane, and why.
I'm René Cotton, and I make Synaptane. I built it for three reasons.
Knowledge gets lost
Every day, I explain things to AI assistants: the context of a decision, how a system works, what we tried and why it did not work. The answers are useful, and they disappear when the conversation ends. The wiki that should keep them is never up to date, because nobody has the time to maintain it.
A growing team needs to share what it knows
I run a company, and its team keeps growing. Each new person needs what the others already know, and the people who know it are often the busiest. I wanted that knowledge to circulate without asking anyone to become a documentation writer: you tell your assistant, and it ends up in the right page.
Your data stays with you
The memory of a team is too important to sit in a closed SaaS, in a format you cannot take back. With Synaptane, it is Markdown pages and your original files, PDFs, slides or scans, in your own Git repository: you can read it without Synaptane, back it up like any repository, and leave whenever you want. That is also why Synaptane is self-hosted and open source, under the Apache 2.0 license.
I develop Synaptane with the help of AI coding assistants, and I review every change.
